Premier Inn has announced plans for a new-build property located on London’s Camden High Street.

The 80-room hotel will operate under the group’s Hub by Premier Inn brand, and will be situated on the corner of Camden High Street and Delancey Street, on the site of a former Sports Direct retail store.

Premier Inn said that Camden Borough Council’s Planning Committee had “resolved to grant planning permission” to redevelop the site, with a new four and five-storey building featuring the hotel, ground floor retail space, and three apartments for social affordable rent.

Premier Inn launched the Hub brand in 2013, with the first property opening in Covent Garden the following year – for a review of this hotel see:

Features include “compact” rooms (about half the space of a standard Premier Inn room, although Bigger Rooms are also available), with technology including smart TVs, ensuite shower rooms, pull out desks and free wifi.

The brand recently opened its ninth London property, located next to West Brompton station, and also has three properties open in Edinburgh. The Camden High Street hotel will be the second Hub property within Camden Borough when it opens.

Premier Inn said it is targeting a number of other London locations for its Hub brand, as well as cities including Bath, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Chester, Dublin, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, Lincoln, Liverpool, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Reading, Southampton, Winchester, Windsor and York.

Commenting on the news Louise Woodruff, acquisitions manager for Premier Inn’s owner Whitbread, said:

“Camden is one of London’s best destinations. Its unique character, connections and world-class attractions make it an extremely popular destination for domestic and international travellers and demand for hotel rooms in Camden Town and across the borough is growing.

“Our popular Hub by Premier Inn brand, with its high-quality design and compact bedrooms, brings a flexible and stylish new hotel to Camden High Street and will create many long-term benefits for the area.”
