Japan Airlines is offering 50,000 free round-trip domestic flight tickets to international passengers this summer.

The Japanese flag carrier’s ‘Win a trip with JAL campaign’ will invite international visitors to trips aboard JAL domestic flights to regional destinations in Japan for travel between July and September.

Each traveller will be given four destinations to choose from, and JAL will inform passengers which one they’ll go to within three days of submitting an application, which are set to open in late February. Flights will depart from/return to Tokyo (Haneda) and Osaka (Itami/Kansai).

Only passengers living outside of Japan may take part in the campaign. The airline said passengers must hold a passport issued by a country other than Japan, or be a Japanese passport holder with the right of permanent residence of a country other than Japan. Participants also must be JAL Mileage Bank members. However, members registered in Japan are excluded.

The campaign is part of the Your Japan 2020 Campaign to be launched in 2020 by the Japan Tourism Agency and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).

The airline said details of this campaign will be disclosed in mid-January.

Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has reached out to JAL to get more details on the four possible destinations.

Earlier this year, JAL announced that it would transfer some international routes from Tokyo’s Narita Airport to Haneda Airport in 2020, and also add two new routes from Haneda Airport to China ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics Games, set to take place starting July.

The airline will also start flying between Tokyo and Vladivostok, a Pacific port city in Russia, starting in summer this year.
