Accor has welcomed its first guests to its new Novotel Christchurch Airport hotel.

Spanning six floors, the property – which opened its doors yesterday – features 200 guest rooms, including ten suites and ten accessible rooms, each designed with marble, copper tiling and American oak panelling. Located next to the terminal of New Zealand’s second largest airport, the hotel was designed by Warren and Mahoney Architects, the same team behind Accor’s Novotel Auckland Airport hotel.

Accor said Novotel Christchurch Airport is located 15 minutes from Christchurch’s city centre and features a restaurant and lobby bar, a gymnasium, car parking, a kids’ corner, Wi-Fi and ten conference and function spaces. The conference and meeting facilities available at the hotel range from the rooftop Tekapo room, which offers views of the Southern Alps and can accommodate up to 260 guests, to boardrooms with natural light. All meeting venues are pillar-less and include broadband, wireless internet access, and in-built audio visual systems.

The hotel group added that the top floor offers panoramic views across the runway and over the Southern Alps. There’s also the Food Exchange which Accor described as a “modern restaurant and social hub”.

“Christchurch has enjoyed its highest visitor expenditure on record, reaching a total of NZ$3 billion (US$1.9 billion), for the year ending June 2019, with visitors from Australia and Asia accounting for just over half of the region’s international tourism expenditure,” said senior vice president operations for Accor New Zealand, Fiji and French Polynesia, Gillian Millar.

“Increasing tourist numbers and such positive visitor expenditure figures highlight the need for a sophisticated accommodation option at Christchurch Airport, and we know that short-stay business travellers, leisure guests and Accor’s valued 4.5 million Pacific loyalty members will be impressed with the hotel’s features, catering to their transit needs,” she added.

Novotel Christchurch Airport joins Accor’s two existing airport hotels in New Zealand – Novotel Auckland Airport and Ibis Budget Auckland Airport. Novotel Christchurch Airport will be the ninth Novotel branded hotel in New Zealand and joins a global network of about 520 Novotel hotels in 61 countries. Novotel Christchurch Airport is Accor’s 45th property in New Zealand.
