Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced that it will transfer some international routes from Tokyo’s Narita Airport to Haneda Airport in 2020, and also add two new routes from Haneda Airport to China in response to the allocation of new daytime slots at the airport.

Starting March 29 next year, the Japanese national carrier will transfer routes to the US, Finland, Russia, Australia, India and China from Narita Airport to Haneda Airport.

As a result of the changes, the carrier will operate a total of 34 international routes at Haneda Airport next year.

Also, with the launch of the new services, the current Narita-Dallas Fort Worth and Narita-New York JFK services will be suspended.

The Japanese carrier said it will also launch a new evening flight from Narita Airport to Chicago “to strengthen its international network with Pacific Joint Business Partner American Airlines” from February 15, 2021:

At the same time, American Airlines will introduce a new route connecting Haneda Airport and Dallas-Fort Worth, and add a second daily service between Haneda Airport and Los Angeles on the same day.

With all these new services, both JAL and American Airlines will offer a total of 18 daily flights via Tokyo’s two airports by 2021.

Meanwhile, JAL says it will continue to operate its current Narita-Los Angeles services (JL62/JL61), though it will replace the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft currently used on the route by a two-class Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with only business class and economy class. First class and premium economy class passengers who have already booked on those flights will be transferred to the new flights JL16 and JL15 (details shown above).

Reservations for all the new routes to the continental US will start from 2pm (Japan time) on November 26 this year.

As for the Shanghai services, JAL now flies three times daily between Narita Airport and Shanghai Pudong, and already operates a daily flight between Haneda Airport and Shanghai Pudong. With the additional Haneda-Shanghai Pudong service, the Japanese carrier will fly five times between Tokyo and Shanghai next year.

The airline said the flight schedules for the new routes between Haneda Airport and Dalian, Shanghai will be announced at a later date.

JAL’s new subsidiary low-cost long-haul carrier, Zipair Tokyo, will also launch its first flights in 2020 with inaugural services from Narita Airport to Bangkok in May 2020, and to Seoul’s Incheon Airport in July 2020.
