Goodbye to the Taj Boston, which occupied the site of Boston’s original Ritz-Carlton for more than a decade.

Following an extensive renovation, the hotel will reopen in spring 2020 as the Newbury Boston, taking its name from the hotel’s location on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay neighbourhood, Curbed Boston reports.

The 92-year-old hotel will have an additional 13 rooms, for 286 redesigned rooms in total; an updated 16,000 square feet of meeting space; and a year-round rooftop restaurant in place of the hotel’s formerly seasonal rooftop patio.

“An iconic property returns to Boston in early 2020 on the corner of Newbury and Arlington, mere footsteps from the Public Garden where the cosmopolitan Back Bay meets noble Beacon Hill,” according to the hotel’s new website, which promises a “beautifully restored hotel” and a “local and timeless institution of global savoir faire that is modern, sophisticated, approachable and refined.”
