Kempinski Hotels has signed an agreement with Dusseldorf-based 12.18 Group to develop the 7 Pines hotel brand under the new name 7 Pines Kempinski.

Kempinski said that the partnership would see it develop and open 20 properties under the luxury lifestyle brand by 2022.

The existing 7 Pines Ibiza will reopen in spring 2020 as the 7 Pines Kempinski Ibiza, followed by a second resort in Sardinia.

The San Carlos Hotel in New York will also be reflagged as the 7 Pines Kempinski Manhattan following “thorough renovations”. It will be the first Kempinski-branded property in the US city in the group’s 122-year history.

The agreement is part of the Kempinski Group’s plans to have over 100 properties open by 2021, with nine hotels set to open in the Caribbean, Tel Aviv, Tbilisi, Bangkok, Guangzhou, Brazzaville and Almaty in the next 12 months, and a further seven properties under construction.

Expansion will be achieved through a mixture of management contracts and acquisition, according to Kempinski’s CEO and chairman of the management board Martin R Smura:

“By acquiring real estate, we benefit from the increase in value instead of paying money for management contracts.

“We have set ourselves ambitious goals to expand the portfolio of Kempinski Hotels with additional flagship hotels. This selective growth is focused on acquiring highly regarded hotels that will make a valuable contribution to our brand.

“We therefore select only those hotels that meet our brand values and thus the highest quality standards of our guests.”

Commenting on the acquisition of the New York property, Smura said:

“New York has always been a dream destination for Kempinski Hotels and this important partnership makes it a reality. Kempinski is now represented in New York and at the heart of Manhattan and we look forward to welcoming the first guests to this vibrant metropolis.”
