Luxury hotel brand Kimpton has announced plans to open properties in Houston and Atlanta in the coming years.

Kimpton Buckhead will be its second property in Atlanta, Georgia, joining the Kimpton Overland Atlanta Airport.

The 216-room hotel will occupy a renovated 1950s residential building and is scheduled to open in late 2020.

It will include a ground-floor restaurant and bar, courtyard dining and drinking venue, private pool, rooftop lounge and 279 sqm of meetings and events space.

Meanwhile, a 204-room Kimpton in a new mixed-use development in Houston, Texas is set to open in 2022.

Located in Houston’s planned “Innovation Corridor”, it will have a restaurant, café, rooftop pool and bar with views of the city and more than 1,300 sqm of indoor and outdoor event space.

The development will also host residential space, shops, bars, coffee houses and art galleries.

Kimpton already has one hotel in Texas, the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt in Austin, and it plans to open the Kimpton Pittman Hotel in Dallas in summer of 2020.

The brand was founded in San Francisco in the 1980s and was acquired by the UK’s Intercontinental Hotels Group in 2014, when it only had hotels in the Americas.

Since then it has expanded globally, with its first European property opening in Amsterdam in 2017.

It now has three in the UK, in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh, with Manchester set to launch soon.

It has also recently announced two openings in Mexico for 2020 and one in Hong Kong for 2023.
