Iberia has boosted its service from Madrid to the Uruguayan capital Montevideo.

Two extra weekly flights have been added, taking the route to a daily service. Flight IB6011 departs Madrid at 0005, arriving into Montevideo at 0750, with the return leg IB6012 leaving at 1320 and landing back into the Spanish capital at 0615 the following day.

The carrier will offer a total of 151,000 seats on the route this year, up by 18 per cent on 2018.

There are currently no nonstop flights between the UK and Montevideo – Iberia offers connections via Madrid, with a total of 165 weekly services from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester.

Air Europa also offers flights between Madrid and Montevideo.

Last year Iberia said it was continuing to “bet strongly” on Latin America, increasing frequencies on several routes and introducing its newest A350 aircraft onto its Madrid-Buenos Aires service in February.

Meanwhile Iberia customers based in Madrid and Barcelona can now take advantage of a new Bag on Board service, enabling customers to have their luggage collected from their home address and checked in ahead of their arrival at the airport.
