Harbour Grand Kowloon opened 360 new guest rooms in its Tower at the start of this month, bringing the hotel’s total room inventory to “over 900”.

“All the brand new guest rooms will come with contemporary furniture, exquisite marble bathrooms and modern facilities that reflect a sense of polished style and refinement,” the hotel said in a statement. A spokesperson for the hotel said she could not yet provide a more precise figure than over 900 rooms as “we are reviewing the room structure [and] we don’t have an exact figure yet”.

The newly renovated Grand Ballroom and three harbour-facing Salons (the hotel’s function rooms) are also expected to open at the end of August.

The new Tower is connected to the hotel’s main building by a sky bridge, and will bring the number of guest rooms with unobstructed views of Victoria Harbour and the city to over 75% of the hotel’s room inventory.

Previous additions and renovations

These are not the only additions and renovations the hotel has made recently.

The addition of Whampoa Conference Centre in November 2018 doubled the hotel’s meeting and event space to 2,350 sqm. The centre has seven function rooms, all with natural daylight, and which will complement the existing event venues and pre-function area on the same floor as the Grand Ballroom to host various types of events for up to 600 guests.

Spanning 418 sqm, the Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 600 guests for cocktails and 33 round tables for banquets. The venues all have sculptural chandeliers made with crystals from Swarovski and are equipped with facilities including a high definition LED wall in the Grand Ballroom and built-in LCD projectors and screens.

In late 2018, the hotel’s lobby and grand staircase was “transformed with a contemporary design, incorporating neutral-themed natural materials, brushed white and silver throughout, infused with shades of grey colors for soft furnishings and sculptural seating”.

Hanging from the high ceiling is a giant 15-metre chandelier named the “Prisms of Light” made up of approximately 150,000 Swarovski Element Strass Crystals.

Last year, two of the hotel’s five restaurants were refurbished. The Waterfront Bar & Terrace was re-opened on February 15, 2018 and kept its harbour backdrop, as well as its outdoor patio offering happy hour drinks and space for private events. The Corner Café was re-opened on April 2, 2018, and offers Illy coffee and homemade cakes and pastries.

“Harbour Grand Kowloon has a long-standing reputation for its warmth and comfort, and the recent renovations and new Tower are big steps in improving our guests’ hotel experience,” said Tady Cheng, director of rooms of Harbour Grand Kowloon.

“With top-notch facilities in this superb harbourfront and convenient location, just steps away from MTR Whampoa Station and minutes from the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui by hotel shuttle, I am confident that the hotel will not only meet, but surpass the expectations of all guests who choose to stay with us.”

Harbour Grand Kowloon is one of two Harbour Grand hotels in Hong Kong, the other being the other side of Victoria Harbour – the Harbour Grand Hong Kong. Last year, Business Traveller’s editorial director Tom Otley reviewed the Harbour Grand Hong Kong, praising it as being an “excellent choice for business travellers with a location convenient for getting around yet away from the hustle of other spots on the Island”.

Harbour Plaza Hotels and Resorts manages 10 hotels in Hong Kong with more than 7,000 guest rooms, suites and serviced suits under three brands: Harbour Grand, Harbour Plaza and Rambler.
