Just passing through the airport in Dallas? It will cost you more.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport has approved an increase in the “pass through” fee charged to commuters and other travellers who use airport roads as a shortcut to avoid highway traffic, Dallas News reports.
The fee, previously $4, will rise to $6 on Oct. 1.
An estimated 2,500 drivers cut through the airport each day to avoid traffic on other north-south highways.
“This is to discourage drivers that cut through the airport to save time,” DFW Airport CFO Chris Poisatte said of the fee increase.
DFW charges drivers fees based upon how long they are on airport property. Those who stay from 0 to 8 minutes — presumably those speeding through the airport without stopping — currently pay $4 but soon will pay $6. Drivers who are on DFW property for 8-30 minutes, typical of those dropping off or picking up passengers, pay $2. Those who remain on the property between 30 minutes and two hours pay $3.
“The rates are increasing so DFW can continue to improve upon parking and roadway infrastructures,” said airport spokeswoman Cynthia Vega.
