Marriott to open Moxy Hotel in Seoul

16 Jul 2019 by Seher Asaf

Marriott International’s Moxy hotel brand is scheduled to debut in Seoul before January 2020.

The hotel, which will feature 140 rooms, will be located in the Insadong neighbourhood in Seoul. Features include a check-in area which doubles up as a Moxy bar with an outdoor terrace on the 16/F, a working area on the 2/F, a gym that’s open 24/7, and free wifi throughout the hotel. Business travellers can also use the hotel’s 60 sqm meeting space.

To save space, rooms in this millennial-oriented hotel will include foldable furniture. A queen sized room is about 17-18 sqm, while a twin room is approximately 18-19 sqm.

A spokesperson from Marriott told Business Traveller Asia-Pacific that the hotel will feature a “Moxy Pickups” – a grab-and-go dining option that will be located on the hotel’s second floor. Connected to this food and beverage venue will be a working space with a library.

According to the press release, the new hotel is next to Jongno 3-ga Station, a station on the Seoul subway line.

“I am excited that Moxy Hotels is set to debut in Korea with the upcoming opening of Moxy Seoul Insadong. Seoul is the leading trendsetter in Asia-Pacific and it’s the ideal addition to our growing portfolio of Select Service Brands in Korea,” said Paul Foskey, chief of development, Asia Pacific, Marriott International, in a press release.

Moxy Hotels first launched in September 2014 with the opening of Moxy Milan. In Asia Pacific, the first Moxy Hotel opened in Bandung, Indonesia, in June 2017, followed by Tokyo and Osaka in November 2017.

The starting rate for guests staying at Moxy’s new hotel in Seoul is yet to be determined, according to a spokesperson from Marriott.
