The flag carrier of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Airlines has launched a direct flight from its home base in Baku to the Indian capital Delhi. This is the first and only direct flight between the two countries and is a significant move to boost tourism.
This twice-weekly flight will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays between Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
This direct link between the countries comes at a time when there is an increased traffic between them. “India ranks very high in our list of priorities. It offers immense potential due to the high number of international travellers and their growing interest in the region. With the launch of the direct route between Baku and New Delhi, we are confident that it would boost the flow of tourists to Azerbaijan. We expect to double the capacity of flights on this route by October 2019,” says Jamil Manizade, Director of Azerbaijan Airlines.
“An Eastern country with a Western outlook, Baku is known as the Pearl of the Caucasus, combining history, culture and modernity. It is a vibrant city offering safe and attractive settings along the Caspian Sea. From UNESCO World Heritage Sites to phenomenal shopping experiences, outdoor activities, luxury hotels and beautiful venues for weddings and honeymoons, Azerbaijan is a perfect destination for couples, families and friends,” adds Manizade.
