To cater to the growing vehicular movement towards the airport, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) has announced expansion work on the Main Access Road (MAR) to the passenger terminal of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB).
This infrastructural development will involve widening of MAR from four lanes to ten (five on each side). Beginning June 10, 2019, the 1.4-km road will be shut for the renovation; and is expected to reopen in 2021.
During the expansion period, traffic will be diverted towards the new six-lane (three each) South Access Road (SAR), built parallel to the existing MAR.

Additionally, to manage the cargo traffic, a secondary road leading to the cargo terminals will be widened to four lanes later this year.
Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru is witnessing a sharp rise in passenger volumes and cargo transportation — therefore, to accommodate this growing demand, BIAL has invested around 13,000 crores in a massive infrastructural upgrade. Among the recent projects undertaken is parts of domestic and international lounges and transit hotel at KIAB being renovated to enhance passenger experience.
