Drivers who need a steady ride but don’t want to own a car can sign up for a new programme from Hertz that offers access to vehicles on a month-to-month subscription basis.

The Hertz My Car programme, launched in Atlanta, Georgia, and Austin, Texas, provides access to the car-rental company’s entire fleet of vehicles, including sedans, crossovers, SUVs, and trucks. The monthly subscription fee includes use of the vehicle, insurance, maintenance, and roadside assistance.

“Hertz My Car enables customers to choose vehicles that best match their needs and offers freedom and flexibility from vehicle ownership and maintenance costs, which is especially appealing to those seeking alternatives to owning or leasing a car,” said Jayesh Patel, the company’s senior vice president of brand.

“Atlanta and Austin are prime testing grounds with diverse and progressive communities and we look forward to combining the insights we gain there with our fleet management and service expertise to expand Hertz My Car leveraging our extensive network of more than 3,500 Hertz locations nationwide.”

The program has a $250 enrolment fee. Drivers can then choose from two subscription options. Tier One costs $999 a month and includes full-size sedans, small SUVs and trucks, while Tier Two is $1,399 monthly and offers luxury sedans, regular SUVs and large trucks. Subscribers can switch vehicles up to twice a month.

“We’ve seen growth in our longer-term rentals in recent years which we believe is one of several positive indicators the time is right for this service,” said Patel.
