Hyatt has announced plans for its first property in Portugal.

The Hyatt Regency Lisbon is scheduled to open in late 2020, and will be located on the city’s waterfront between Rua Guerra Junqueiro and Avenida da India, overlooking the Tejo River.

The hotel will feature 200 rooms, a swimming pool, spa facilities, a rooftop terrace bar, and a courtyard and garden. Food and beverage facilities have yet to be confirmed.

Commenting on the news Nuno Galvão-Pinto, regional vice president development at Hyatt, said:

“We are delighted by the announcement of plans for the first Hyatt hotel in Portugal as Lisbon is one of Europe’s leading cities in overnight stays and has quickly established itself as a prime destination not only for leisure travellers, but also for larger conventions and events.

“We look forward to working with United Investments Portugal on this exciting project in Lisbon. This is an important step for Hyatt as we look to expand our brand presence throughout Portugal.”

The Hyatt Regency Lisbon will be the first Hyatt-branded property in Portugal, although the group does list several Portuguese hotels on its website, as a result of its recent tie-up with Small Luxury Hotels.

Hyatt recently announced plans to introduce its Regency brand in Spain, with an agreement to rebrand two existing Hesperia properties in Barcrelona and Madrid.
