Air India is said to discontinue its direct flights between Mumbai and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, owing to poor demand — the route was made operational in December 2018. As per industry reports, the airline has not included this flight in their winter schedule.
Air India officials stated that Mumbai-New York flights were causing losses to the airline, reported Hindustan Times.
The Mumbai-New York flight, operated thrice a week, was temporarily suspended in February, following the Pakistan airspace closure; and was expected to resume in June 2019. But with low seat occupancy and increased expenditure, Air India is unlikely to restart the service.
Similarly, in March, the carrier suspended its Delhi-Madrid and Delhi-Birmingham flights but recommenced Delhi-Madrid service on April 18.
Meanwhile, the flag carrier of India will continue to operate direct flights between Mumbai and Newark. airindia.in
