Huatulco and Acapulco will be added to American Airlines’ list of Mexico destinations this winter, and the airline is also boosting service to the Caribbean and to Miami International Airport, the airline’s primary connecting hub for the region.

The airline is adding a total of three new Mexico routes (including an additional flight to Chihuahua), five new Caribbean routes, and eight new domestic routes.

Daily service between Phoenix and Chihuahua will commence on December 18, 2019; the airline already flies to the northwestern Mexico state from Dallas/Fort Worth. On December 21, American will begin seasonal Tuesday and Saturday service from DFW to the Pacific resort regions of Huatulco and Acapulco.

Flights from New York/JFK to Georgetown, Guyana will also begin on December 18, when American will add second daily flights from DFW to San Jose and Liberia, Costa Rica, as well.

New Saturday flights launch December 21 from DFW and Chicago/O’Hare (ORD) to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, and ORD also will get new service to St Lucia on the same day.

Other new Caribbean seasonal services announced by American include New York/LaGuardia-Bermuda and Charlotte-Grenada.

“As we looked at our Latin America and Caribbean network, we saw some unique opportunities to grow, providing more service to the places our customers value most,” said Vasu Raja, vice president of network and schedule planning for American.

“We know that customers who travel for business during the week are seeking Caribbean destinations on the weekends, and we’re looking forward to providing new opportunities for that this winter.”

Travellers heading to South Florida or making connections to the Caribbean will benefit from new service to Miami from Oklahoma City, Northwest Arkansas (XNA), and Columbia, South Carolina (CAE), starting December 18.

Other new domestic routes announced by American include  Phoenix and Rapid City, SD, and ORD-Charleston, West Virginia starting September 21; DFW-St George, Utah, beginning daily on September 26; three new daily flights from JFK to Richmond, Va, on November 21; and Saturday flights between Philadelphia and Vail, Colorado on Dec. 21.
