Austrian group Vienna House has acquired 17 hotels and two forthcoming properties from the Arcona Group, taking its portfolio of existing and under development hotels to over 40 properties across Europe.

The city centre properties are located across Germany, with one in the Swiss town of Schaffhausen near the German border.

The acquisition sees Vienna House take on eight Arcona Living properties, four Arcona Hotels, five Steigenberger properties, and two forthcoming projects.

The hotels will be reflagged under the Vienna House umbrella, which consists of the Vienna House, Vienna House Easy and Vienna House R.evo brands.

The existing properties are located in Potsdam, Stuttgart, Rostock, Stralsund, Osnabrück, Wetzlar, Leipzig, Baden-Baden, Berlin, Bremen, Munich, Schaffhausen, Wismar, Osnabrück, Braunschweig and Eisenach, while the two hotels under development are situated in Greifswald and Mannheim.

Commenting on the news Rupert Simoner, CEO of Vienna House said:

“The Arcona city hotels fit perfectly into the portfolio of Vienna House. Here two partners have found each other who are focusing on their brand positioning, who want to grow meaningfully from it and who also get along splendidly.”

The deal will see Arcona Group focus on the holiday hotel sector, with plans to rollout the Barefoot Hotels concept following an agreement with founder Til Schweiger.
