Hong Kong-based hotel group Ovolo Hotels is bringing its new Mojo Nomad brand to Australia in mid-2020 with the opening of the Mojo Nomad South Yarra in Melbourne.

The new hotel will be the brand’s “signature flagship property”, according to the group, and will feature about 100 rooms, including shared rooms, private rooms, “large rooms” and suites.

The property will be located in Melbourne’s South Yarra and Toorak cultural districts, a short distance from retail and entertainment options at Chapel Street.

Mojo Nomad South Yarra will be the brand’s third property, following on from Mojo Nomad Central and Mojo Nomad Aberdeen in Hong Kong. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific reviewed Mojo Central shortly after its opening late last year.

The brand is designed to be a casual and tech-forward offering, with a focus on communal spaces – a holdover from the brand’s origins as a shared work space. Within the hotel, guests will have access to a cinema room, library, gym and lounge.

Meanwhile, guestrooms will offer TVs, reading lights, Bluetooth headphone capabilities and privacy screens for shared rooms – another feature than leans into the brand’s focus on communal space.

The hotel has been designed by Woods Bagot Architect and interior designers Luchetti Krelle.

“In a day and age which doesn’t allow us to live our own lives authentically and have a true sense of self, Mojo Nomad truly lets the future traveller – the global nomad and locals alike – to choose the way they want to travel and socialise without limitation,” said Ovolo Group CEO, Girish Jhunjhnuwala.

Ovolo operates 11 properties in Hong Kong an Australia, including an existing hotel in Melbourne, Ovolo Laneways.
