Finnair is making its seasonal non-stop flights between Helsinki and Guangzhou year-round starting October 30, with two weekly flights scheduled to operate during the winter season on the formerly summer-only service it launched back in 2016.

The Finnish carrier operates four weekly flights on the route during the summer months.

The two weekly winter-season flights will depart Helsinki on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1700, arriving the following morning in Guangzhou at 0830. Return flights depart Guangzhou at 1050 and land back in Helsinki the same day at 1510.

As part of the service upgrade, Finnair will also be shifting its operations at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to the new Terminal 2 building, which opened last year. This will provide better connectivity with China Southern, whose home hub is Guangzhou and with whom Finnair recently entered into a codeshare partnership.

Christian Lesjak, senior vice president of network and resource management for Finnair, described the decision as “a logical next step in [Finnair’s] Asian strategy”, citing growing numbers of travellers between Europe and the airline’s destinations in China.

Finnair will fly its Airbus A350-900 aircraft on the route, which it equips with a business and economy class cabin – the former offering fully flat beds in a 1-2-1 configuration that provides direct-aisle access to all passengers in the cabin.

Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has previously reviewed Finnair’s business class seat product and service offering on board its A350-900 on the airline’s Hong Kong-Helsinki route.

Finnair flies to Hong Kong two times a day. Located just over the border from Guangzhou, Hong Kong late last year saw the opening of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link providing high-speed train connections between the three cities in the Greater Bay Area.

Finnair flies 42 times per week between Helsinki and destinations in Greater China during the summer months, serving Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Nanjing and Xian.
