Aer Lingus customers can now pay for flights on the carrier’s mobile app using Apple Pay.

Payments can be made in Euros, Sterling and US Dollars, using Apple Pay’s touch ID technology or facial recognition on the iPhone X.

The Irish carrier said that use of its mobile app for bookings and services increased by 50 per cent in the last year.

The new Apple Pay facility has been made available through the Aer Lingus Payments Hub platform in partnership with technology firm Voyego, which has also recently added the option for Aer Club members to part pay for flights using Avios.

Earlier this year the carrier also launched a new credit card in partnership with Bank of Ireland, with benefits including free flights, priority boarding, lounge passes and travel insurance.

Commenting on the news Dave O’Donovan, Aer Lingus Director of Digital and Mobile Technologies, said:

“We are delighted to add the Apple Pay option on our mobile app, as it is another convenient and secure way to pay for your flights. As we add more and better functionality on our mobile app, more of our guests are choosing to browse and book flights in this way.

“We will continue to explore ways to add new functionality to give our customers the best possible experience. This latest innovation also comes shortly after the launch of our new AerCredit card, which in partnership with the Bank of Ireland, offers exclusively available to our guests.”
