Icelandair has unveiled four new amenity kit designs inspired by “animals woven into the nation’s folklore” – the puffin, arctic fox, Icelandic horse and raven.

The new Dyralif (“wildlife”) kits were designed by Wessco International and feature skincare products by Icelandic brand Hannes Dottir (lipbalm, hand lotion and mineral mist), as well as earplugs, eyeshade, socks, a dental kit, ‘Do not disturb’ stickers and educational facts about the animals which inspired the designs.

According to the carrier the bags are “based on each animal’s unique qualities showcased through shapes and colors reflecting their power and grace”.

In the case of the arctic fox this has resulted in a two-tone colour referencing “the animal’s natural shifting colouration”, with a zip puller inspired by the animal’s tail. Meanwhile the zip puller of the puffin kits has been inspired by the bird’s brightly coloured beak.

The kit’s eco credentials have also been highlighted – bags are made from recycled canvas, synthetic leather and recycled plastic bottles, with a paper wrapping, toothbrush made from a cornstarch-based biodegradable material, and socks also made from recycled materials.

The new amenity kits will be offered to Saga Premium passengers on flights between Iceland and North America, with the puffin and arctic fox designs launching this year, followed by the Icelandic horse and raven designs in 2020.
