Travellers flying in Air Asia X’s Premium Flatbed cabin can expect to receive new wireless noise-cancelling Sony headphones the next time they fly with the Malaysian low-cost airline.
Air Asia X, the long-haul arm of Air Asia, announced that new Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones will be made available to Premium Flatbed passengers on board all Air Asia X Malaysia (which carry the D7 airline code) scheduled flights over five hours.
“Following customer feedback and the successful trial of the noise cancelling headphones on our Kuala Lumpur-Tokyo route, we are delighted to extend and introduce this new partnership with Sony,” said Barry Klipp, Air Asia Group head of ancillary.
Along with being wireless – a relative rarity among airline headphone offerings – the WH-1000XM3s are notable for their adaptive sound control that enables the headphones to detect and adjust to the environment within the aircraft cabin.
“We are delighted to deliver our Sony WH-1000XM3 wireless noise-cancelling headphones to all AirAsia Premium Flatbed guests, which will take the inflight experience to the next level with Sony’s innovative QN1 processor and deliver a great audio experience 35,000 feet above the ground,” said Satoru Arai, Sony Malaysia managing director.

Premium Flatbed passengers already receive handheld tablets during their journey that allow them to access the airline’s in-flight entertainment system.
Along with offering a flatbed seat product, passengers in Air Asia X’s business class-esque Premium Flatbed cabin also receive a pillow and duvet in flight, and get access to the Air Asia Premium Red Lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) airport terminal.
Passengers also get priority check-in, boarding and baggage, as well as a 40kg baggage allowance and meals included in the ticket fare.
Air Asia X recently announced that it would be launching non-stop flights between Bangkok and Brisbane in June, which will be operated by its Premium Flatbed-equipped Airbus A330.
