Hyatt has opened the first German property under its lifestyle Andaz brand.

The 277-room Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor is only the third property under the brand in Europe, joining hotels in London and Amsterdam, and is located in Munich’s Schwabing district, home to many of the city’s restaurants and theatres, as well as the Englischer Garten public park.

Features include rooftop bar M’Uniqo, coffee bar Bicicletta, and restaurant The Lonely Broccoli, which “celebrates the unique flavors of Bavaria by serving quality meat and using (almost) all parts of the animal”.

Leisure facilities include a spa, gym and 17-metre swimming pool, and for events the hotel has a 500 sqm ballroom, two private kitchens, a 200 sqm exhibition space, and seven meeting studios.

The lobby features a video installation by artist Yves Petzner, while the Andaz lounge has a seat made from a cast bronze alloy and produced by a local Munich art foundry, in the shape of a “golden pretzel”.

The first Andaz hotel opened in 2007 in London, housed within the former Great Eastern Hotel, and there are currently 18 Andaz properties globally, but European expansion has been slow. Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht followed in 2012, and the group is also set to open the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere next month.

Of the brand Hyatt says “Global in scale while local in perspective, the Andaz brand of luxury lifestyle hotels weaves the sights, sounds, and tastes of each property’s surroundings for a distinctively local experience”.
