Ministry of Civil Aviation has reported that domestic and international airlines owe dues worth more than INR 2400 crore to Airports Authority of India (AAI). Airlines pay airports for services including checkin counters, navigational, landing and parking.
In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation said that SpiceJet owes INR 105.71 crore, including penalties, and GoAir owes ₹19.35 crore to the AAI.
The ministry is said to be in talks with SpiceJet to the clear the due — Last year, AAI served a notice to the low-cost carrier to pay up to INR 20 crore by November 30, to partially clear the payment.
However, the biggest defaulter is the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines that owes INR 294 crore to the aviation body. In March 2014, AAI filed a court case for recovery of dues from Kingfisher Airlines.
Additionally, dues for the international airlines stood at INR 312 crore to the AAI.
Deadline to pay the dues to AAI has not been disclosed yet.
