Cleartrip’s latest study titled “Evolution of the Travel Space in India” maps the accommodation booking trends in India, observed in the time period of 2014-2018.

Ankit Rastogi, Vice President, Accommodation and Activities, Cleartrip, said, “Through this study, we have garnered interesting insights such as the growing propensity for last minute travel plans amongst as well as the emergence of women as key decision makers. Further, revelations on the most popular destinations and accommodation options allow us to cater better to the unique preferences of discerning travellers.”

Following are a few travel booking trends from the report:

  • One of the highlights of the study is that women are emerging as key decision makers while booking accommodations. The percentage of bookings made by women is between 40 and 45 per cent. Interestingly, the share of accommodation bookings by women is much higher as compared to air travel, where the percentage of bookings made by women is 36 per cent (average).
  • Long weekend travel is picking up, with an increase in bookings accounting to 70-100 per cent over weekends.
  • The report shows that travellers are now going for more last-minute travel plans. The same day bookings for business travels have seen a hike from 17 per cent in 2014 to 25 per cent in 2018.
  • Top trending destinations in India include Kerala, Goa, Andaman, Pondicherry, Manali, Ooty, Nainital, Shimla, Coorg, Corbett, Ranthambore and Bandipur.
