Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru is set to undergo a massive infrastructural upgrade. This will include the development of a second runway, a new terminal, and multi-modal transport hub.

Kempegowda International Airport is the third busiest airport in India, so through this expansion project, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) aims to tackle the expected surge in traffic in addition to accommodating the rising demand of the passengers. Additionally, it is also set to increase employment opportunities in the region by providing jobs to 45,000(approx.) people.

The new terminal, which will roughly cost around ₹3,500 crore,  will be built keeping sustainability in mind —use of solar energy, zero or less consumption of electricity during day time are some of the efforts that will be taken to maintain environmental harmony.

Approximately ₹13,000 crores will be invested for this expansion plan, which is expected to be completed by 2021.
