Car-rental firm Hertz has partnered with airport security company Clear enable premium-level customers to quickly check out with their vehicles.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members who are enrolled in Clear can link their accounts and then use facial recognition portals to identify themselves and depart with their cars. Drivers pull up to a Clear portal in their rental vehicle to have their face scanned, which is accomplished simply by rolling down the car window. Hertz claims the ID and checkout process takes under 30 seconds.

Use of the Hertz Fast Lane with Clear biometric integration requires a valid US, driver’s license and membership in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards.

The new technology is now being used at Hertz’s rental-car centre at Atlanta’s Hartfields-Jackson International Airport, with plans to add 40 more locations in 2019, including Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards who enrol in Clear also qualify for one to four months of trial membership (depending on status level with the rental-car company) and a discounted Clear membership rate of $129.
