US hotel group Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is set to open three hotels as part of a development in Dubai’s historic Deira neighbourhood.

The hotels will operate under the Wyndham, Days by Wyndham, and Super 8 by Wyndham brands.

Scheduled to open in early 2020, the 282-room Wyndham Deira Waterfront will be an upscale property with various meeting, fitness and leisure facilities, including a rooftop pool.

Days Hotel Deira Waterfront, opening early 2021, will have 131 rooms and suites targeting the mid-range market.

Meanwhile the 90-room Super 8 Deira Waterfront and accompanying restaurant and café, set to open late next year, will offer travellers a more affordable option.

The Deira Waterfront Development will see the construction of hundreds of shops, restaurants and offices, as well as homes, hotels, transport links, public spaces and other amenities.

The project is by real estate investors Ithra Dubai, a subsidiary of sovereign wealth fund Investment Corporation of Dubai.

Deira is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the emirate, located near Dubai International Airport. It has so far seen less breakneck construction than other areas, better known for its traditional markets and dhow boats. A square kilometre is marked for the new development.

“We are very excited to welcome Wyndham Hotels and Resorts as a partner of our flagship development in Deira,” said Issam Galadari, Director and CEO of Ithra Dubai.

“Ithra Dubai’s development in Deira will enhance this busy and bustling part of Dubai, and will add to its rich tapestry woven by communities past and present.”

Ignace Bauwens, Regional Vice President for Middle East, Eurasia and Africa, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, said: “The addition of three of our most iconic global brands to this important area demonstrates Wyndham Hotels and Resorts’ commitment to Dubai and the Middle East region as a whole.”

“Together with Ithra Dubai, we know we can preserve the heritage of the area whilst still meeting the needs of the modern traveller and contributing to growing the district’s commercial opportunity. Offering three very distinct hotel brands ranging from upscale to economy will also ensure the area holds great appeal for visitors to Dubai from many different source markets.”
