Marriott has opened the first property under its AC Hotels brand in the Middle East and Africa region.

The 188-room AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront is within walking distance of the city’s Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, and the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The hotel is housed within the mixed use Yacht Club development, which also comprises office, retail and residential space.

The hotel features views across to Table Mountain from some rooms, with facilities including the AC Lounge, Kitchen restaurant, Market shop and Library, as well as a gym and 250sqm of events space with harbour views.

Commenting on the news Alex Kyriakidis President and Managing Director Middle East and Africa Marriott International, said:

“We are delighted to open our very first AC Hotel by Marriott in Middle East and Africa in Cape Town, further strengthening our long-standing partnership with the Amdec Group.

“The opening of this hotel reinforces our commitment to driving growth for our lifestyle brands in South Africa in response to a continued demand from discerning travelers seeking hotels with style and functional design, while also providing unique and authentic experiences.”

AC Hotels by Marriott was launched in 2011 through a joint venture between Marriott and Spanish group AC Hotels, and was introduced to the US market in 2014, followed by the launch of the first UK properties in 2016.

The lifestyle brand is gradually growing beyond its European roots, with new properties opening in New York and Montreal earlier this year.
