American Express has announced plans to open a Centurion Lounge in Heathrow Terminal 3 next year.

It will be the thirteenth Centurion Lounge, marking the brand’s entry into the European market. Hong Kong is the only location outside of the US.

Plans for a new lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport were also confirmed today.

American Express said the 7,000 square foot London lounge will be inspired by the city’s blend of history and modernity.

The company said it would contain the “premium facilities and services that Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers have come to expect” such as complimentary food and drinks, showers, high-speed Wifi and private noise-buffering work stations, as well as bespoke offerings.

A spokesperson said an opening date had not yet been set but would be sometime in 2019.

Lounge access is exclusively for American Express Platinum Cardmembers and Centurion Members.

Platinum Cardmembers can bring two travel companions free, while Centurion Members can bring their immediate family or up to two travel companions.

A Centurion Lounge pop-up will be open to Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers in London’s Covent Garden from 11:00-1800, December 13 to 16.

The lounges can be found at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, Las Vegas’s McCarran International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Miami International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Houston’s George Bush International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport.

Josh McKay, vice president and general manager of global benefits and services for Amex, recently said the company would be expanding its existing lounges and building new ones in order to keep up with growing demand.

Upcoming Centurion locations are New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, Denver International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Charlotte Douglas.

“Both in business and their personal lives, our Premium Cardmembers are living more globally, and we are committed to meeting their needs wherever they go,” said Chris Cracchiolo, American Express’s SVP, Global Loyalty and Benefits.

“London has long been a top city our Platinum and Centurion Cardmembers travel through, so it made perfect sense to open our first Centurion Lounge in Europe and second location outside of the US, to Heathrow. We look forward to welcoming Cardmembers to our new Centurion Lounge location in Heathrow next year.”

John Arbuckle, Head of Property at Heathrow said, “We are really proud to welcome Europe’s first Centurion Lounge to Heathrow. The lounge will offer a unique and premium experience for Amex customers and a comfortable haven, bringing to life the essence of Modern British hospitality.”
