Hyatt Hotels has won a bid to operate a new spa and conference hotel at Edinburgh Marina, set to open in 2020.

The 187-room Hyatt Regency hotel, Hyatt’s first property in Scotland, will include a two-bedroom Presidential suite and 98 serviced apartments.

Guests will have access to a 20,000 square foot health spa and fitness centre and a 10,000 square foot conference and banqueting centre, plus restaurants and bars.

The hotel will overlook the new 340 berth Edinburgh Marina, with 24/7 access at all tides.

Edinburgh Marina, 2.5 miles northwest of the city centre and 8 miles from Edinburgh International Airport, is being developed as a new leisure and residential destination. A new tram link to Granton and Leith is under construction.

Guido Fredrich, Hyatt’s regional vice president development, Europe, said: “I am thrilled that we will be opening our first hotel in Edinburgh, as part of the exciting new Edinburgh Marina development.

“The Edinburgh Marina is the perfect springboard for us to launch our brand in Scotland, opening a new era for the company and creating a great new tourism opportunity for Edinburgh.”

Hugh Taylor of hotel management company Michels and Taylor said: “This is great news for Edinburgh and a huge boost to its tourism industry.

“Hyatt is a highly regarded international hotelier and is a perfect fit for this luxury waterfront development.”
