Emirates is giving members of its Skywards frequent-flyer programme up to double the usual Tier Miles for select bookings made before December 3 this year, providing a short window for members to boost their progress towards their next tier.

The offer comes with a few restrictions, namely involving the date of travel and fare type. Flights need to take place before March 31, 2019 and have to be either Flex or Flex Plus fares when travelling with Emirates, or Free to Change or Business Basic fares when travelling on flights operated by flydubai.

Members also need to register for the offer first either via the Emirates app or by logging onto their account online.

Emirates Skywards has four tiers – Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum – with various benefits accorded to each level. Complimentary access to the airline’s business class lounges, for instance, only kicks in at Silver – restricted to just the airline’s Dubai lounges for Silver members – though Blue tier members do receive a discount when purchasing one-off lounge access.

The double points offer is such that certain business class return journeys could fast track Blue tier members straight to Gold, such as between London and Sydney, or New York and Johannesburg, according to Emirates. An eligible economy class return trip on these routes, meanwhile, would provide enough Tier Miles to elevate a Blue member to Silver.

Double points only apply to Tier Miles, however, and not Skywards Miles, the currency used to redeem award tickets and upgrades.

Flydubai, Emirates’ low-cost subsidiary, was integrated into Skywards back in August this year, replacing the airline’s former Open programme.
