Wizz Air to open Krakow base with new London and Sheffield links

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air will offer new routes from London Luton and Doncaster Sheffield to Krakow when it opens a base in the Polish city next year.

The airline will launch 12 services to Krakow, with London starting in April and Sheffield starting in May.

Two new Airbus A321s will go to the base to serve the UK routes in May and September.

Wizz said the move was a $240 million investment in Poland that would create more than 200 new jobs.

Krakow will be the Hungarian airline’s fifth base in the country alongside Warsaw, Katowice, Gdansk and Wroclaw.

It brings the number of Wizz services from the UK to 85. This summer Wizz announced a host of new services out of Liverpool and Luton.

“Today’s announcement underlines our commitment to our UK and Polish markets, where we launched operations back in 2004 with the first Wizz Air flight from Luton to Katowice,” Stephen Jones, Executive Vice President and Deputy CEO at Wizz Air said.
