Turkish Airlines is to add a new service from Gatwick to the capital Ankara next year.

The twice weekly route to Turkey’s second largest city will launch on January 9 using a B737-800 aircraft.

Flight TK1299 will depart Ankara’s Esenboga International airport on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1915, arriving into Gatwick at 2035, with the return leg TK1300 leaving London at 2135, and landing back into the Turkish capital at 0435 the following day.

Commenting on the news Celal Baykal, Turkish Airlines general manager, London, said:

“We’ve introduced this new Turkish Airlines route in direct response to the rise in passengers looking to travel to this destination.

“This is the first time we have operated a direct flight out of London Gatwick to Ankara and see this as part of our continued growth plans.”

Turkish Airlines will be the only carrier offering flights on the Gatwick-Ankara route – Turkish scheduled and chartered airline Sun Express offers flights between Ankara and London Luton airport.
