Soho House and Co is due to open its latest members’ club and hotel this month, extending its footprint to Asia with Soho House Mumbai, directly facing the city’s Juhu Beach.
This latest arrival comes on the back of a busy few years for the group – branching out into new territory with the opening of The Ned in the middle of London’s City (pictured above) and building a countryside retreat in Oxfordshire among others – and an equally busy 2018, with openings, renovations, and expansions in a variety of locations.
Starting this summer, its Amsterdam outpost opened inside the 1930s Bungehuis building, built as a trading office and previously part of the University of Amsterdam. You’ll find it tucked behind the Royal Palace, just off of Dam Square, and next to the W Hotel.
Inside, there are 79 rooms ranging from Tiny to Extra Large, with high ceilings adding to the sense of space. The roof terrace offers 360-degree views of the city, and comes with a blue-tiled pool.
Beyond the club spaces (which include a screening room), there is restaurant Cecconi’s and a Cowshed spa on the ground floor. Fittingly, you’ll also find bike parking and a workshop for repairs.
Just after Amsterdam, Soho House Barcelona got a sibling in the form of Little Beach House Barcelona. Set on the beach in Garraf, a small fishing village outside Barcelona, there are 17 appropriately beachy rooms, along with a rooftop bar and restaurant.
Just a little bit bigger is another townhouse in London’s Shoreditch, around the corner from Shoreditch House, with 37 rooms (from Tiny to Large) and a Cecconi’s restaurant.
Speaking of getting bigger, additional rooms are coming to Soho Farmhouse: Walled Garden rooms with emperor-sized beds, fireplaces and roll-top baths, and Piglets – smaller than the current cabins – that have a friendlier price tag.
Coming then to this month, if all goes well Soho House Mumbai will bring the group’s signature vintage chic to India. Its Juhu Beach location means the ground floor Cecconi’s looks out to the sea, with more elevated views from the rooftop pool and bar.
There are 38 bedrooms, as well as a screening room and gym – here of course with yoga studios.
Continuing on to the US West Coast and future openings, a second Soho House is coming to Los Angeles, among the booming scene in downtown. It’s due to open April next year in a 1917 brick building offering 110,000 sq ft of space, which unlike its West Hollywood and Malibu locations will include bedrooms bookable by the general public.
Beyond that, there is more to come in Asia with Soho House Hong Kong, with a purpose-built 120,000sq ft, 26-storey tower in the Sai Ying Pun area. Late next year, Soho House Paris is on the list, with openings in 2020 in Austin (in South Congress) and Milan (on Via Brera, in what was originally announced as a W Hotel).
