London Borough of Tower Hamlets has granted planning permission for a mixed use development next to Westferry DLR station, which is set to include a 400-room hotel.

The 30-storey development at 82 West India Dock Road will be designed by Simpson Haugh and Partners, responsible for One Blackfriars and the Circus West Village at Battersea Power Station.

Aside from the hotel the development will feature retail space, as well as 66 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, and a landscaped rooftop garden.

There will also be “substantial public realm improvements”, including the planting of over 50 new and mature trees, ornamental planting, rain gardens and seating areas which will “greatly enhance the experience, appearance and biodiversity next to Westferry DLR station”.

Donal Mulryan, founder of developers Rockwell, said:

“Our vision for 82 West India Dock Road will breathe new life into a neglected site that has been derelict for many years. This inspiring new building includes a hotel that will bring new jobs and business to the local area, in addition to much needed new homes for the local community in an inspiring new building.

“We are dedicated to delivering this exciting, high-quality development and look forward to turning this site into a place that locals can be proud of.”

Westferry station is located on the Docklands Light Railway, two stops from Canary Wharf.
