Oman strengthens its position as a MICE destination

Oman is already popular among the mature and evolved Indian travellers for being an exotic and geologically stunning country offering authentic Arabian experience. The Sultanate provides a perfect blend of modern infrastructure and authentic Arabian experience, making it an ideal destination for business and leisure travellers.

New Infrastructure and hospitality developments in Oman

Owing to the new infrastructural developments taking place in the country, Oman is currently experiencing a massive surge in business tourism.  A case in point is the launch of Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), a key hub for MICE business in Oman that recently saw a grand opening of the four-star Crowne Plaza, which is the first of three hotels to open within the new Madinat Al Irfan district.

Located just four kilometers from the new Muscat International Airport, this state-of- the -art convention centre, once completely ready, will feature a business park, retail shopping areas and residential districts, surrounded by a nature reserve parkland and a wadi park.

Meanwhile, many new international hotel chains that have recently opened in Oman, have increased the number of rooms and venues in the country.

Air Connectivity for Indians

Since 2014, Oman has witnessed over 31 per cent growth in Indian arrivals. In 2017, the Sultanate received 3,21,161 Indian visitors, thereby showcasing the growth of over 7 per cent in just one year. Short flying time and great connectivity are some of the major reasons for Indians planning a long weekend getaway to Oman.

Oman Air, the national carrier is connected via direct flights with major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Kochi, Goa, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram. Besides, Air India, Jet Airways, SpiceJet and IndiGo are also well connected from various cities of India.

Simplified visa policy

To further strengthen its position as a preferred MICE and leisure destination, Oman has introduced a new e-visa process and short-term tourist visa for Indians holding a valid visa to any of these countries- United States of America, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Japan and Schengen States. The visa will be valid for a period of ten days and will cost around 5 Omani Riyal (₹962). The tourist visa for Oman, currently, is available in three durations- Ten days, one month and one year.
