Delta and joint venture partner Virgin Atlantic will launch a daily seasonal service linking Edinburgh with Boston in 2019.

Flights start on May 24 with Delta providing a two-class 163 seater B757-200. There will be 16 flat bed seats in business class.

The Boston route will be additional to Delta’s existing daily service to New York JFK.

Says Gordon Dewar, CEO of Edinburgh airport, “North America has been one of our biggest growth markets and there has been exceptional demand for those services this summer.”

However the “demand” may not have come to LCC (low-cost carrier) Norwegian who will be axing all three of its transatlantic routes from Edinburgh between now and the early part of next year.

And once again we see a regional airport falling over itself to announce a new international route much, I am sure, to the chagrin of worthy UK regionals like Flybe.

Schedules are as follows:

  • DL123 departs Edinburgh 1055, arrives Boston 1302
  • DL122 departs Boston 2215, arrives Edinburgh 0925 the following day
