Business class travellers flying on Singapore Airlines’ services to Taipei and Fukuoka will be getting an enhanced seat experience by the end of this year when the airline begins flying its new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft on the two routes.

The new aircraft is a notable upgauge from the Airbus A330-300 that currently flies to both Fukuoka and Taipei, notably being the launch aircraft for Singapore Airlines’ brand new fully flat regional business class seat product.

Singapore Airlines is due to begin deploying the aircraft on its one daily flight to Fukuoka (SQ656/SQ655) from December 27 onwards, while one of its two daily services to Taipei (SQ876/SQ877) will get the aircraft starting January 1, 2019. The airline’s other daily Taipei flight will continue to be flown by the A330-300.

Singapore Airlines was the global launch customer for this latest variant of Boeing’s Dreamliner aircraft, having taken delivery of the aircraft in March this year.

The aircraft features 36 Stelia Opal seats in business class, which are laid out in a staggered, forward-facing 1-2-1 configuration, providing unencumbered access to the aisle from all seats. When reclined to form a fully flat bed, the seat extends a total of 76 inches.

Business Traveller published an in-depth first look at the new seat product earlier this year.

Fukuoka is the latest in a number of destinations in Japan to see the new Dreamliner, with Singapore Airlines’ services to Osaka, Tokyo and Nagoya all having received the aircraft previously.

“Japan is an important market for Singapore Airlines and we hope that customers travelling on these routes will be pleased with our new regional cabin products,” a Singapore Airlines spokesperson told Business Traveller back in June.

“Customers on other routes will also soon be able to experience the new cabin products as more new 787-10s enter the fleet.”

The 787-10 is not the only aircraft in its fleet that Singapore Airlines plans to equip with the new regional business class seats, however.

Starting December 17, the airline will fly the first of its Airbus A350-900 specially configured for medium-haul travel on its services to Adelaide. Unlike its current long-haul A350-900 variants, this aircraft will feature the new regional seat in business class.

Overall, Singapore Airlines has a total of 49 B787-10s on order.
