Italian carrier Air Italy, formerly known as Meridiana, has completed the first stage of its Asia network expansion plan with the launch of its four-times weekly flights between Milan and Bangkok.
Initially flying to the Thai capital four times per week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, the airline has now confirmed plans to add an additional fifth weekly flight on Saturdays starting October 28.
Business Traveller previously reported that the new Bangkok route would be flown using the airline’s Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Air Italy outfits these aircraft with 24 seats in business class, which recline to a lie-flat position to form a 78-inch bed.
Along with the usual bedding and amenity kits, business class passengers can also request pyjamas and slippers, while up to 60MB of complimentary wifi is also offered to those travelling in business class. The economy class cabin, meanwhile, has 228 seats.

“We have had an extremely good summer thanks to the goals achieved on our new US flights to New York and Miami, which reached more than 90 per cent load factor. Added to this, more than half of our customers choose Air Italy to fly them from, and to, the South and the Centre of Italy via Milan. This confirms that our business plan is proving to be successful and that we are already delivering on our promise of providing our customers with a new choice for their worldwide travel.”
Back in summer, Air Italy also announced plans to launch new flights between Milan and Delhi and Mumbai on October 28 and 30, respectively.
