Marriott International has announced plans for a third Ritz-Carlton property in the New York area, located in the city’s NoMad (north of Madison Square Park) district.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad will be housed within a 150-metre high tower situated at Broadway and 28th Street, and will offer 250 rooms and 11 residences.

Facilities will include a fine-dining restaurant, Club Lounge, spa and fitness centre, two ballrooms, and a rooftop bar.

Designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Vinoly (responsible for projects including New York University Abu Dhabi and Carrasco International Airport), the development will also feature a large public garden and open terraces when it opens in 2021.

According to Marriott the tower “will provide hotel guests and residents extraordinary views of the Empire State Building and downtown Manhattan as well as direct access to a historic neighbourhood recognized for its architecture, central location and dynamic culinary scene”.

Commenting on the news Tony Capuano, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Development Officer, Marriott International said:

“We are thrilled to be working with Flag Luxury Group to bring this significant project to the NoMad area.

“Thanks to buzzing restaurants and bars, unique retail and notable architecture, NoMad has become one of Manhattan’s most popular neighborhoods.

“This signing speaks to the strong demand we are experiencing for luxury hospitality and branded residences.”

Ritz-Carlton currently operates two properties in the New York area – The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park, and The Ritz-Carlton New York, Westchester, located around 30 minutes from downtown Manhattan.
