Marriott’s W Hotels brand has finally confirmed it will re-enter the Sydney market, with a new 593-room property close to Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

It has long been speculated that the hotel within the city’s The Ribbon development would be branded under the W Hotels offering, but it has taken until now for Marriott to confirm the news.

Sydney was in fact the first location for the brand outside the US, but the then W Sydney in the city’s Woolloomooloo  suburb was rebranded as the Blue Hotel (managed by Taj Hotels and Resorts) in 2007, and has since again been rebranded under the Ovolo brand.

The new W Sydney is scheduled to open in 2020, and will feature the brand’s signature pool and Wet Deck with views of Darling Harbour, as well as a restaurant, two bars, a spa, gym, and 925 sqm of events space including a grand ballroom.

W Sydney will join the recently opened W Brisbane, as well as the W Melbourne which is also set to open in 2020.

Commenting on the news Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels Worldwide, said:

“Wherever my travels take me, I am asked again and again when W is returning to Sydney, and I am thrilled to finally be able to answer the question.

“With the long-awaited return of the W brand in Sydney, Australia will now have three W hotels, along with W Brisbane and W Melbourne – demonstrating just how important and exciting this continent is for global travel.”
