Hotel update: Global round-up

Business Traveller rounds up recently opened and upcoming hotels from brands including the Radisson Hotel Group and NH Hotels.

Vibe Hotel North Sydney

The area north of Sydney Harbour Bridge is home to Northpoint, an up-and-coming business hub in the city. Since April, it’s also home to TFE Hotels’ newest Australian hotel, which features 187 rooms and includes a rooftop pool and bar where guests can gaze across the harbour at the city’s skyline. Four meeting rooms provide a conference capacity of 120. TFE Hotels is also constructing hotels at Sydney’s Darling Harbour and Melbourne’s Queen Street, and has plans to build another in Hobart’s Argyle Street. Vibe Hotel Gold Coast and Vibe Hotel Sydney are both receiving multi-million dollar refurbishments.

Gran Vía 21, Madrid

Calle de la Montera, the iconic avenue in Madrid, recently gained a new four-star establishment. NH Hotel Group’s latest Collection hotel, their premium category, offers 94 rooms plus a rooftop terrace, a restaurant serving classic Spanish cuisine and the Tanqueray Sky Garden, a rooftop garden and gin bar. The hotel is situated in a Neo-Baroque style building that originally opened in 1918. Its location in the city centre is a 10- to 15-minute walk to the Malasaña and to the Chueca districts, and a two-minute walk to the Gran Vía underground station.

Capella Ubud, Bali

A new hotel on Indonesia’s most famous island offers guests the chance to relax surrounded by untouched nature in luxury tents. The area of Ubud and surrounding villages are a hub for Balinese artisans and artists. The hotel is themed to pay homage to the adventurous spirit of the early European settlers of the 1800s. There are 22 one-bedroom tents and one two-bedroom lodge, all situated among the dense rainforest trees and rice paddies. Private car transfers to and from the airport near the capital, Denpasar, are available to guests through the hotel. It is set to open in June.

MV Fingal, Edinburgh

Floating at the dockside of the Port of Leith, flanked by the Royal Yacht Britannia, is Edinburgh’s only “boatique” hotel. A vessel formerly belonging to the Northern Lighthouse Board is being transformed into 23 guestrooms and two luxury cabins. The accommodation will also feature a bar and a Scottish-themed restaurant, along with a ballroom that can hold 80 people. The MV Fingal is about three kilometres away from Waverley station and the city centre. It is set to open in October and prices will start at £300 per night, which includes a full Scottish breakfast.

W Ibiza, Spain

W Hotels, which is part of Marriott International, is set to open a new beachfront luxury destination on the seafront of Ibiza in the summer of 2019. The hotel will house 162 guestrooms and suites and offer access to a rooftop sunset bar, beach bar and spa, among other amenities. W Ibiza is aiming to be the new entertainment hub of the relaxed Santa Eulalia area. W Hotels is also set to open a location in Madrid in 2019 and Marbella in 2021.

Park Inn by Radisson, Zambia

Park Inn by Radisson Lusaka Longacres, Zambia

Radisson Hospitality AB is planning to open a Park Inn in Zambia in 2020. The hotel will be near several embassies and UN offices in the suburb of Lusaka and offer 136 rooms, as well as a restaurant and bar. A 9,000 sqm shopping mall and several businesses will be located in the same development, with the goal of making the Park Inn a top destination in Longacres. One ballroom, three meeting rooms and a boardroom will be available for conferences.
