Marriott International has opened its first property in the West African country of Mali.
The Sheraton Bamako Hotel is located in the upmarket ACI 2000 neighbourhood of Mali’s capital, around 20km from the city’s Modibo Keïta International airport.
The hotel features 200 rooms, 27 of which are Sheraton Club rooms, with views of the Niger River and hillsides.
Facilities include a Sheraton Club lounge, fitness centre, outdoor swimming pool, business centre and 820sqm of meeting space including a 478sqm grand ballroom.
For dining there is the all-day eatery City Grill, Brasserie Bamaquoise for French cuisine, Oasis Pool Bar and Legendes du Sport Bar.
Commenting on the opening Alex Kyriakidis, President and Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International, said:
“We are thrilled to build on Sheraton’s proud heritage in Africa that dates back to 1971. Over the last four decades, the brand has maintained its first mover advantage through strategic pipeline development and growth, giving global travellers access to more destinations across the continent.
“Sheraton Bamako Hotel not only marks our entry into a new country, but also serves as a great example of our transformation efforts around the brand.”
Earlier this month Marriott opened its first property in the Ghanaian capital Accra, located opposite the city’s Kokota International airport.
