Recently launched city-centre hotel brand Principal has opened its fourth UK property and second in Edinburgh, following the refurbishment and rebranding of the Roxburghe Hotel.
Previously managed by brands including MacDonalds Hotels and Crowne Plaza – the Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square is housed within a 19th century Georgian building, and has seen an investment of £25 million.
Features at the 199-room property include free wifi, the brand’s signature lobby area with vintage red post box and Corner Shop, six meeting spaces accommodating up to 300 guests, and a new glass-roofed internal courtyard which will open as all-day dining restaurant The Garden later this year.
Next month standalone Eastern Mediterranean restaurant Baba will also open next to the hotel.
The Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square joins existing properties in Manchester, York and Edinburgh George Street, with a fifth hotel set to open on London’s Russell Square later this year, following the £75 million restoration of the former Russell Hotel, designed by English architect Charles Fitzroy Doll.
Future locations for the brand include Glasgow, Cardiff, Oxford, Birmingham, Liverpool and Leeds.
Principal Hotel Company – The owner of the Principal and De Vere hotel brands – also recently launched a new loyalty programme Applause Rewards, offering benefits including member-only rates, advanced check-in and late checkout, and free credit against restaurant, bar or room service.
