Qatar Airways has launched a new pre-select dining option for its premium passengers on selected long-haul routes departing Doha.

Business and first class passengers can now pre-order their preferred main course between 14 days and 24 hours before departure, by logging into the My Trips section at qatarairways.com or through the carrier’s app.

The new service is being introduced on selected flights from Doha to Europe, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand, with plans to extend it to other regions “later this year”.

Qatar Airways says that the new option, combined with the existing dine-on-demand service, means “Premium passengers will now be able to board their flight in the comfort and knowledge that their pre-selected dish is reserved and waiting for them whenever they are ready to dine, giving them more time to relax and enjoy the airline’s superior on-board entertainment and amenities”.

The carrier is not the first to introduce a pre-order service for its premium customers. Singapore Airlines offers a Book the Cook service for its suites, first, business and premium economy passengers, while British Airways allows First, Club World and World Traveller Plus travellers to pre-order meals on selected flights from Gatwick and Heathrow (World Traveller passengers can also opt to purchase inflight meals in advance).
