Hungarian low cost carrier Wizz Air has launched a service allowing passengers to “lock” their fare for a limited time.

For a fee of £3 per segment and per person, passengers will be able to use the “fare lock” service to secure their chosen fare for 48 hours without it selling out. The service is available online for passengers booking one-way or return flights more than seven days prior to their departure date or the date of their outbound return flight.

The service creates a fixed price regardless of the flight, period or bundle chosen. Once the fee is paid, the names and number of passengers cannot be changed.

Chief commercial officer at Wizz Air, George Michalopoulos, said that the new service makes the booking process easier:

“Wizz Air is once again proving its commitment to finding innovative ways of enhancing the customer journey. The new service launched today is a great tool for taking the stress element out of the booking process, allowing customers 48 hours to finalise their purchase.

“Following our recent announcement regarding the increase in free allowance of hand luggage, we continue to focus on ways to better meet our passengers’ needs.”
