Motel One has launched its first property in Zurich.
The 394-room property is the second from the design hotel group in Switzerland, the first being in Basel, and a five-minute drive from the city’s main train station.
The lobby design features a gold panorama of the Swiss Alps and curtains by Swiss firm Christian Fischbacher, while the bar and lounge area is decked out in fine leather furniture by Italian luxury label Baxter, using dark browns and caramels in an “homage to Swiss chocolate”. An imitation golden chocolate wrapper adorns the ceiling above the bar, alongside hanging lamps, Baxter bar stools, bold wall murals and the brand’s signature turquoise egg chair in nooks around the lounge.
Featuring images of Lake Zurich and the city skyline, the hotel’s breakfast area extends onto a courtyard terrace with an adjoining area and a large workbench that can be used for working and meetings. Free wifi is available.
Ranging in size between 16 sqm and 45 sqm, rooms features include a 43-inch LG TV, a leather Freifrau armchair and velvet curtains from Swiss company Christian Fischbacher, and a granite-clad bathroom with Dornbracht taps and a rainshower.
The group recently opened its second Manchester property in July, on Cross Street, with plans to open a hotel in Glasgow next year.
