Business Traveller rounds up new, renovated and upcoming hotels from brands including Crowne Plaza, Ibis Styles, Hampton by Hilton and Holiday Inn.
Holiday Inn Express Waikiki
IHG has announced the opening of the largest Holiday Inn Express in the Americas. A short walk from the Hawaii Convention Centre, the 44-storey hotel is ideal for large-scale conventions, with 596 rooms and 437 sqm of event space. There is also a fifth floor Sky Deck featuring leisure activities such as giant chess, mini golf, a video game room, ping pong and table football. In addition, there is an outdoor pool with a sun deck and a 24-hour gym.
Hyatt Centric Guatemala City
Hyatt has opened its first Hyatt Centric in Central America. The 138-room hotel is situated in the upmarket Zona Viva district, within reach of the Plaza Mayor, National Palace and a ten-minute drive from La Aurora International airport. There is a Guatemalan-style restaurant with an open kitchen concept and artisanal cocktail menu, and a rooftop restaurant with live music, serving light dishes. There is also a rooftop gym.
The Lowell New York
The Lowell New York has unveiled a US$25 million redesign of its public spaces and restaurants. In addition to a new restaurant and bar, there is also a new library lounge, garden and updates to the hotel’s existing Pembroke Room restaurant. The new Jacques bar features geometric patterned marble floors, embossed leather panels on the walls and a marble bar, while the Majorelle restaurant contains a garden with exotic plants, flowers and fruit trees. Renovations were led by interior designer Michael Smith, who was decorator for the Obamas at the White House.
Hampton by Hilton Humberside Airport
Hilton has opened Hampton hotel at Humberside airport. The 100-room property is the airport’s first hotel, featuring a private car park, a 24-hour gym, a bar and a restaurant. It is a short walk from the airport – which is the UK’s busiest heliport – and is also nearby to Hull city centre and the Deep Museum Quarter. Two meeting rooms are on offer with capacity for 40 people each.
Crowne Plaza Puebla
IHG has opened a Crown Plaza in the Mexican city of Puebla. The 155-room hotel features the brand’s new Worklife room concept aimed at enhancing the productivity of business guests. A 15-minute drive from downtown Puebla and the city’s exhibition centre, rooms include 50-inch TVs, a lounge area and coffee machines. There is also a heated indoor pool, a gym and a business centre with meeting rooms that can hold up to 300 people, plus boardrooms with a capacity for 12.
Four Points by Sheraton Venice Mestre
Marriott has opened a Four Points hotel in Mestre, Venice. The 168-room hotel has two restaurants, a 200 sqm meeting room, a gym and a garden, plus parking. Rooms include 40-inch LCD TVs, a desk and mini bar, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering garden and courtyard views. The hotel has one of the largest suites in the Mestre area, measuring 200 sqm. This is the fifth Four Points property to join the brand’s Italian portfolio.

Made Hotel New York
Made Hotels is due to open a new property in New York in September. Located at the junction of 29th Street and Broadway, the hotel is spread across 18 storeys, with 108 rooms designed by Studio Mai using bold, rustic features such as raw bronze shelving, rich handwoven fabrics and hand carved benches. A restaurant, a lobby bar and a rooftop will also be on offer.
Ibis Styles Glasgow
Accorhotels has announced plans to open an Ibis Styles in Glasgow. Expected for the summer of 2018, the hotel will take over a complex of disused offices on Waterloo Street, offering 137 rooms, a restaurant and bar. This will be the second Ibis Styles in the Scottish city, with the first located in George Square.
